Party Favours Is The Feature Print

I am Kathy Doughty, an American dwelling in Australia and an obsessive quilter since my first stitch. So nice is my ardour that in 2003 I opened Material Obsession, a patchwork store that is a treasure trove of dynamic, colourful fabrics curated to create a brand new mix for all quilters.

My motivation is to stimulate the imagination of quilters with quilt designs and techniques which have a familiar idea with a degree of distinction. Designing fabric without cost Spirit is a natural extension of this method ! One afternoon I used to be sketching with a fabric vary in thoughts. Ideas come from in all places but this day my mind was filled with stash treasures that my clients had been mixing with contemporary fabrics for applique and Broderie Perse in our classes. Within the pile have been a wide range of remnants that included house dec, upholstery and antique chintz fabrics.

I noted that the cherished fabrics my prospects have been rigorously chopping up typically had exotic animals like giraffes and camels…monkeys and elephants. A bit of research revealed that when patchwork first started girls would wait on the docks in England for the supply of the extraordinary prints from India that always featured unimaginable colours and images. I liked this nod to history and an concept was born….what if these animals have been party favours sitting in a jug as a substitute of flowers? Celebrate, my latest assortment is all about that twist…and maybe a little bit of shout!

It’s a lot enjoyable to be able to have a good time the discharge of Celebrate! Party Favours is the characteristic print. The decorative pots and characters can be cut from the borders and used in a feature block. I just like the construction of conventional quilts and am always on the lookout for prints that may hold space with curiosity in a quilt. Additionally it is possible to isolate the characters for fussy chopping in pieced quilts or into massive hexagons.

It’s a versatile print that may also be cut beautifully into dynamic directional sashing strips. This specific print would even be darling for curtains in a child’s room! Once I had my get together favours the idea of a celebration celebration was on hearth! It started with the invited characters that make a gathering attention-grabbing. But earlier than the friends arrive we need to decorate so….

Setting the desk with a colourful floral table cloth makes for a festive occasion. In Australia we regularly plan our events exterior in the garden so we at all times want good weather! Weather Permitting is a vibrant floral print that hopes for good weather but if it rains, we’ll simply put up a colourful umbrella!

It is a fun print for slicing giant or small. It has enough energy to be used as a palette starter, for alternate blocks or borders. It is also perfect for a shirt…for that special man Dave the DJ! Party Land was a nod to a tropical theme. Palm bushes, pineapples (the flavour of the month!) and seaside huts are photos that carry good times to thoughts!

Again the print has features for random or fussy cutting. For the last few years celebration banners have been standard so I assumed they’d make an fascinating graphic print with a variety of traces and patterns. These three prints are an fascinating choice for block spacers and even applique backgrounds. To top off any get together a little bit of fizzy bubbly doesn’t go astray so Bubbles were added in three colours for backgrounds and mild. The completely satisfied colors and that intense acid yellow make this print proper on trend.

Once i design a fabric range and am deciding on the colors I’m always thinking about my prospects and quilting friends. Pretty – those that like snug, low distinction prints which are in a word, fairly. Traditional – these that have a love of more reproduction model prints and colors.
